Form 1042-S recipient copy corrections

  • Updated

Sovos identified two printing problems that affected recipient copies of Form 1042-S for tax year 2025 printed and mailed through the print and mail service. This article explains what happened, what Sovos has done to fix it, and what you need to do next.

What happened

Two separate problems affected printed recipient copies:

  • Data from box 12b (Withholding Agent Ch. 3 Status Code) printed in box 13f (Recipient Ch. 3 Status Code), and data from box 12c (Withholding Agent Ch. 4 Status Code) printed in box 13g (Recipient Ch. 4 Status Code)
  • Values in box 5 (Withholding Allowance) and box 6 (Net Income) were truncated, with the last digit of each value dropped

What was not affected

These problems were limited to printed and mailed recipient copies only. Your electronic filings submitted to the IRS were not affected and contain accurate data. No corrected IRS filings are required. Online views and downloadable PDFs generated directly from the system also reflect the correct data.

What Sovos has done

Both problems have been identified and fully resolved. Affected forms will be reprinted and sent to recipients.

Next steps

You don't need to take any action right now. If you'd like, you can proactively share a help article with your recipients so they understand why they may receive a new copy.

Any further updates will be added to this article as they become available.

Will I be charged for the reissued form?

No. Reissued recipient copies are provided at no charge.
