About IRIS compliance

  • Updated

eFileMyForms is fully compliant with the IRS's Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) for tax year 2026 returns filed in early 2027.

What is IRIS?

The Information Returns Intake System (IRIS) is the IRS's electronic filing platform for information returns, including 1099 forms.

Starting with tax year 2026 returns filed in early 2027, the IRS is replacing the legacy Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) system with IRIS and requiring it for all electronic 1099 filings.

Do I need an IRIS Transmitter Control Code to file?

No. You don’t need your own IRIS Transmitter Control Code (TCC) to file through eFileMyForms.

A TCC is only required if you file directly with the IRS. When you file through eFileMyForms, eFileMyForms submits your returns to the IRS on your behalf using its own IRS-authorized credentials.

What does this mean for me?

For most filers, very little changes. For tax year 2026 returns:

  • No TCC application required
  • No new IRS registrations or identity verification steps
  • Your 1099s are transmitted to the IRS through IRIS, fully compliant

One important change: Check your recipient name fields before filing

IRIS requires first name, last name, and Tax Identification Number (TIN) to be in separate data fields. When preparing your data for tax year 2026, separate first name, middle name, and last name into individual fields to prevent rejections when your returns are transmitted.

If you have questions about IRIS or how eFileMyForms processes your filing, visit IRS.gov/IRIS or contact support for additional guidance.
